Thiago Silva wanted Wayne Rooney at Paris Saint-Germain

Thiago Silva reveals that he wanted Paris Saint-Germain to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has revealed that he wanted Wayne Rooney to join the Ligue 1 champions over the summer.

The Manchester United striker was widely expected to leave Old Trafford after a fallout at the club, as well as allegedly handing in a transfer request towards the end of last season.

However, Rooney has remained with the Premier League champions, much to the disappointment of Silva.

"Wayne Rooney would have been great to play with," Silva told reporters. "He is one of the best strikers in the world and this is also a guy who has scored against me every time I've played him. That goal at the Maracana still irks me."

PSG travel to Bordeaux on Friday.
