Tottenham Hotspur lead the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos next year, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly at the head of the queue for Toni Kroos, with the experienced midfielder considering leaving Real Madrid to make a switch to the Premier League.

The German came close to joining Manchester United from Bayern Munich in 2014, but he ultimately moved to Real Madrid, and he has enjoyed huge success in the Spanish capital.

The 33-year-old has represented Los Blancos on 430 occasions in all competitions, scoring 28 goals and registering 92 assists, winning three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League crowns.

Kroos has again been an important player for Real Madrid this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists in the process.

The midfielder's contract at Bernabeu is due to expire next June, though, and he is believed to be considering a new challenge at this stage of his career.

According to The Sun, Kroos is eyeing a move to the Premier League, as he is keen to play in England before hanging up his boots.

The report claims that the German's representatives are expected to sound out Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United and Manchester City to discuss a possible move.

However, Tottenham are said to be in the driving seat, with the North London club's head coach Ange Postecoglou determined to push through a deal.

Kroos could allegedly be available in January if he does not sign a new deal at Bernabeu, with Real Madrid reluctant to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

The ex-Bayern youngster has not always been in Real Madrid's starting side this term due to the presence of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde in the middle of midfield.

However, Kroos has been vital for Los Blancos in recent matches, and he started Saturday's 2-1 win over Barcelona before being withdrawn in the 63rd minute of the contest.

The midfielder has previously said that he will "retire" at Real Madrid, but he is now believed to be open to one final challenge before the end of his career.

Tottenham have thrived under their new manager Postecoglou this season, picking up 25 points from 10 Premier League matches, which has left them top of the table.

The absence of European football has allowed Spurs to focus on the league in 2023-24, and the capital outfit continued their strong run with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Friday night.
