Manchester United have reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.
The 24-year-old has become frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium, having started just 10 games for City last season.
Johnson is thought to be content with life in the Blue side of Manchester for now but wants assurances that he will play a bigger part for the club next season.
The former Middlesbrough player missed out on Roy Hodgson's 23-man England squad for Euro 2012 and could be forced to move elsewhere to improve his chances of playing for his country.
Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be a long-term admirer of the midfielder and would love to take Johnson from United's rivals in a bid to reclaim the Premier League title.
Sunderland are also keen on signing Johnson.
