Louis van Gaal hints Manchester United could sign a striker and Sergio Ramos

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal hints that the club are in pursuit of a new striker and refuses to rule out signing Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that the club are working on bringing a new striker to Old Trafford, while Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos remains a target.

The Dutchman has been busy in the summer transfer window so far, having recruited Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Reports on Monday claimed that the Red Devils are unlikely to sign a new striker as Van Gaal is happy to have Wayne Rooney as the team's main centre-forward.

However, during a press conference in the United States, the Dutchman hinted that the club are in pursuit of a player who has not been suggested as a target by the media.

"He's in the process, but you have to wait and see," Van Gaal told reporters. "It's not the striker that the media has written. The transfer period is open until August 31 or September 1."

When asked about United's reported pursuit of Ramos, Van Gaal said: "I cannot talk about these rumours. I have said already it's a process and maybe Mr Ramos is in the process, you never know."

Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia and goalkeeper David de Gea, who has been widely linked with a move to Real Madrid, have been ruled out of Wednesday's pre-season game against San Jose Earthquakes in California due to injuries.
