Marseille coach Elie Baup has said that the result was more important than the performance as his side triumphed 1-0 over Valenciennes.
Rod Fanni's late goal secured all three points for at the Stade Velodrome, which sees Les Phoceens go second in Ligue 1.
Baup said that it was vital his side got back to winning ways following three games without a win.
"For me, there is no such thing as a laborious victory," Ligue1.com quotes Baup as saying. "The championship is tight and difficult, apart from PSG being well out in front, and so there's no place for mediocrity.
"We've had our ups and downs. After our run of poor performances, it was important for us to put together something more concrete and create more chances.
"I'm happy with the way we controlled the game, but we have to start creating more chances."
Lyon can go back above Marseille with a win over Bordeaux this afternoon.
