Melbourne Heart win at home in Melbourne derby

Melbourne Heart thrash rivals Melbourne Victory 4-0 at AAMI Park.

Melbourne Heart have thrashed Melbourne Victory in their derby match at AAMI Park.

The home side took an early lead when Orlando Engelaar tapped in after David Williams had taken the ball round Lawrence Thomas.

They doubled their advantage just six minutes later. Mate Dugandzic directed a cross to Iain Ramsay inside the box, but his pass missed his teammate and ended up in the back of the net.

The Victory came back into the match after that, but they were unable to reduce the deficit before the break and their task was made even harder when Nicholas Ansell was sent off for pulling down Williams.

Despite their numerical disadvantage the visitors started well in the second half, but it was the Heart who looked more threatening going forward as Ramsay smacked the post with a powerful effort.

Dugandzic also headed over from Williams's cross and Ramsay poked wide from inside the box.

The third goal finally came with just under 10 minutes remaining. Dugandzic crossed to Williams, who calmly slotted past Thomas.

With the Victory reeling, the home side added a fourth through Harry Kewell to wrap up a comfortable win.
