Middlesbrough defender Alex Baptiste has undergone surgery after suffering a double fracture of his leg during the weekend.
The 29-year-old picked up the injury in his first start for the club since joining from Blackburn Rovers.
Smoggies boss Aitor Karanka confirmed after the match that the summer recruit had sustained serious damage to his leg, which will see him miss a prolonged spell of next season.
A statement on the Championship outfit's website read: "Baptiste underwent a successful operation over the weekend, and is now on the road to recovery."
Boro went on to win their opening pre-season fixture 1-0 against York City.
