Huddersfield Town midfielder Adam Clayton reportedly failed to turn up for a medical at Middlesbrough and now the proposed move between the two clubs could be ruined.
A deal between the two Yorkshire clubs had been agreed, with Jacob Butterfield believed to be heading in the other direction, but now Clayton appears to have taken matters into his own hands.
According to the Evening Gazette, Brighton & Hove Albion are trying to hijack the move, and their interest could be the reason for Clayton's change of heart.
The deal has also been hampered by the departure of Mark Robins as manager of Huddersfield after their 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth on the opening day of the season.
Mark Lillis has now been named as caretaker manager.
