Preview: Millwall vs. Norwich City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Norwich City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Championship leaders Norwich City will be eager to return to winning ways on Tuesday against Millwall.

The Canaries dropped points for the first time in 2021 in a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday, with Swansea City and Brentford capitalising by winning their games.

The stalemate against Boro is one that Norwich will be keen to forget as they failed to have a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes – uncharacteristic from a side that average the joint-most attempts on target in the Championship this season.

The Canaries also had Emiliano Buendia sent off midway through the second half – his third red card in under a year – which Daniel Farke described as "harsh".

Nonetheless, Norwich found a way to earn a point, and their lead at the top of the table still stands at four points, while it is now just two defeats in their last 22 league matches.

Both of those defeats came away from home, but no Championship team has registered more points on the road than Norwich (25) this season. That said, Farke's side have only kept two clean sheets away from home.

The league leaders travel to a Millwall side that have won just one of their 12 league matches at the Den in 2020-21 and that solitary victory came all the way back in October against Luton; only three Championship sides have picked up fewer points at home than the Lions.

Gary Rowett's side drew 1-1 with Cardiff City on Saturday, leading from the ninth minute onwards before conceding in the 71st.

It was their 13th draw in 26 Championship games this season – no side in the division has seen more games end level.

There was also nothing to separate Millwall and Norwich when they met at Carrow Road in November as it finished 0-0 despite the Canaries having a total of 27 shots and 61% possession; it meant that Millwall have only won one of the last nine meetings with the Norfolk outfit.

Team News

Rowett has named the same starting XI for Millwall's last two games, both draws, and the head coach is unlikely to deter too much from that side again.

However, the Lions are struggling for goals so the likes of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Mason Bennett and Matt Smith will all be eager to break into the team.

Connor Mahoney and Billy Mitchell are both back in training following recent injuries, but Murray Wallace remains sidelined.

Buendia's red card against Middlesbrough rules him out of this game and the crucial clash with Swansea on Friday, with Przemyslaw Placheta and Onel Hernandez battling to replace him.

New signing Dimitris Giannoulis had a rough introduction to English football in the first half against Boro but improved as the game went on and should keep his place ahead of Jacob Sorensen.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Leonard, Hutchinson, Cooper; McNamara, Kieftenbeld, Woods, Malone; J. Wallace, Bodvarsson, Bennett

Norwich City possible starting lineup:
Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Giannoulis; Skipp, Rupp; Placheta, Vrancic, Cantwell; Pukki

We say: Millwall 0-1 Norwich City

Farke will demand a response after Norwich's showing on Saturday and although they will miss Buendia's threat, the Canaries should still be able to overcome a Millwall side that are hard to break down but struggle going forward.
