Alan Dunne "heartbroken" by Millwall exit

Veteran defender Alan Dunne admits that he is "heartbroken" to be leaving Millwall following a 25-year association with the club.

Veteran defender Alan Dunne has admitted that he is "heartbroken" to be leaving Millwall.

The 32-year-old is among a handful of players who have been released by manager Neil Harris following the Lions' relegation from the Championship.

Dunne joined Millwall's academy back in 1990 before going on to make nearly 400 senior appearances for the club.

"I want to say thank you to the fans, the chairman and the club and wish Neil the very best of luck in the coming seasons," he told the club's official website.

"I hope to one day be back working with the young players to achieve their dreams. I am really heartbroken to be leaving Millwall. My dream was always to retire in a Millwall shirt but after 23 years my time has come to move on."

Dunne's final appearance for Millwall came on the last day of the season, with the team losing 4-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
