Preview: Millwall vs. Brentford

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship clash between Millwall and Brentford at The Den.

Things are going very well for Brentford in the second tier of English football ahead of Saturday's trip to take on Millwall at The Den.

Last season's League One runners-up are sitting pretty in ninth place in the Championship table, and could even move into the playoff positions should results go their way this weekend.

Just two points separate them from the top six as things stand courtesy of very impressive back-to-back wins over Derby County and Nottingham Forest, both of whom are expected to challenge for promotion themselves this season.

It is now just one defeat in six for Mark Warburton's side, who also broke a four-match winless streak away from home with their 3-1 victory at Forest on Wednesday.

Warburton will still be without Alan McCormack for a number of weeks, so Moses Odubajo will continue to fill in at right-back in what could be an unchanged side for the Bees.

Millwall, meanwhile, have only won two of their last 14 matches this season having emerged with maximum points from their first two, but they have also proven themselves tough to beat.

Blackburn Rovers found that out to their expense on Tuesday as Millwall came from two goals down to rescue a point at The Den, despite manager Ian Holloway and defender Andy Wilkinson both being sent off.

That was the Lions' fourth draw in their last six matches, but Holloway will be acutely aware that he needs to begin turning those draws into victories having only won one of the last 11.

It is the same story at home, where Millwall have won just one of their last five. However, they have been able to hold the likes of Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn to draws in front of their own fans, results that will be pleasing for a side expected to struggle at the wrong end this season.

Wilkinson saw his red card appeal rejected and so will begin his three-match suspension this weekend, which could see Alan Dunne fill in at right-back.
