Preview: Millwall vs. Charlton Athletic - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's friendly clash between Millwall and Charlton Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Millwall and Charlton Athletic will continue their respective preparations for the upcoming season with a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday.

The hosts will be looking to kickstart their pre-season journey off the back of consecutive stalemates, while their visitors go in search of a third victory on the bounce.

Millwall had to make do with a share of the spoils once again in Saturday's goalless draw against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

Neil Harris's men were on top for large spells of the contest but were unable to make their dominance count for anything significant.

Nonetheless, the Lions are now unbeaten in seven straight matches since a narrow 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield back in early April.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who are without a victory in the last 12 editions of this fixture dating back to 2009.

Since failing to win any of their first five home matches of 2024, Tuesday's hosts have picked up five wins and two draws from the subsequent seven and will certainly be no pushovers here.

Charlton Athletic cruised to a routine 3-1 triumph over Turkish side Goztepe when the teams faced off in Slovenia on Saturday afternoon.

First-half goals from Tyreece Campbell and Daniel Kanu put Nathan Jones's men in cruise control at half time after which Nazim Sangare pulled one back just past the hour mark, only for Alex Mitchell to seal the deal moments later.

Following a four-game winless run to end last season, the Red Robins have won both of their warm-up fixtures so far and will be confident heading into their next assignment.

Having netted nine times across their last two away outings, Tuesday's visitors will be looking to enjoy another field day in front of goal on enemy territory.

Team News

Millwall's Macaulay Langstaff could make his debut in this one having recently joined from League Two side Notts County.

Having spent last season on loan with the home side, Japhet Tanganga has completed a permanent switch and is available for selection here.

Chris Bishop was hauled off in the first half of Charlton's victory last time out with an injury scare and the forward is doubtful for Tuesday's clash.

Tyreece Campbell and Daniel Kanu will be looking to come up trumps for the visitors once again having scored a combined four goals in the last two matches.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Jensen; McNamara, Bryan, Cooper, Grant; Esse, Honeyman, Saville; Leahy, Nisbet, Watmore

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Mannion; Gillesphey, Jones, Mitchell, Watson; Anderson, Taylor, Campbell, Edun; Aneke, Kanu

We say: Millwall 2-1 Charlton Athletic

Despite struggling for goals of late, Millwall possess more than enough attacking talent to see off Charlton, and we are backing them to get the job done in what should be an open and end-to-end affair.
