Ten-man Huddersfield Town score two late goals to see off Millwall

Huddersfield win 3-1 at Championship strugglers Millwall despite going down to 10 men in the second half.

Two late goals helped 10-man Huddersfield Town win 3-1 at relegation-threatened Millwall in the Championship.

Nakhi Wells received a second yellow card with the score at 1-1, but Jacob Butterfield and James Vaughan gave the Terriers victory.

The home side had the first effort on target as Magaye Gueye's shot was saved by Alex Smithies, after Diego Fabbrini had broke forward from midfield.

Millwall maintained their early tempo and came within inches of taking the lead when giant striker Stefan Maierhofer struck the outside of the Huddersfield post from an acute angle, after Ed Upson had teed him up.

However, the visitors took the lead against the run of play as Sean Scannell beat the offside trap to reach a Wells pass before neatly volleying the ball past David Forde.

Huddersfield's lead lasted just 11 minutes, though, as Maierhofer scrambled the ball over the line from a Shaun Williams free kick.

Scannell went close to a second when he blasted a right-footed shot wide, before he later cut the ball back for Harry Bunn to clatter against the bar.

Huddersfield were down to 10 men shortly after half time as Wells was given a second yellow card for a foul during an aerial challenge, and Milwall increased the pressure as they looked to make their advantage tell.

Williams's free kicks were causing chaos, and Maierhofer almost helped himself to a second.

However, it was the 10 men of Huddersfield who took the lead when Butterfield's long-range shot bounced over Forde and into the net.

They then assured victory when Shaun Williams fouled a Huddersfield player in the box, and Vaughan neatly put the penalty away.
