Preview: MK Dons vs. Cheltenham Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's League One clash between MK Dons and Cheltenham Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

MK Dons will aim to collect consecutive victories when they welcome Cheltenham Town to Stadium MK on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the visitors enter the contest in 14th position, and they are looking to halt their current poor run of form that has seen them fail to win in their last five League One games.

MK Dons will enter Wednesday's fixture in high spirits after collecting three points on Boxing Day thanks to a 3-2 away victory over Lincoln City.

Liam Manning's side got off to the worst possible start against Lincoln as a Warren O'Hora own goal and a Chris Maguire penalty gave the hosts a two-goal lead after eight minutes.

In the 59th minute, Scott Twine pulled a goal back for MK Dons before Matt O'Riley restored parity, and Twine grabbed his second goal of the game in stoppage time to complete the turnaround.

That win leaves Manning's men a point adrift of the playoff places, and they will aim to utilise home advantage in their next two league fixtures to climb into the top six.

Having lost just twice in their last ten home league games, MK Dons will be confident that they can collect all three points on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the visitors head into the fixture in freefall after collecting only two points from their last five league games.

On Boxing Day, the Robins played host to Plymouth Argyle and it was the visitors who left with the points as goals from Panutche Camara and Jordan Garrick helped Plymouth to a 2-0 victory.

Although they failed to score in that fixture, the primary issue for Cheltenham has been a vulnerable backline that has shipped 14 goals in their last six league games - only Morecambe have conceded the same number in that period, with no side conceding more.

An away trip will not do anything to help the confidence in the Cheltenham dressing room, given the fact that the Robins have won two of their 11 League One away matches this term.

Although, Michael Duff can be encouraged by the fact that his side have improved on the road of late after avoiding defeat in three of their last four away league games.

Team News

MK Dons will line up with a back three of O'Hora, Harry Darling and Dean Lewington.

After scoring a brace on Boxing Day, Twine will keep his place in the side after returning to the starting lineup against Lincoln.

Mo Eisa also came into the side for the Lincoln encounter, and he will retain his spot for Wednesday's contest.

Meanwhile, Duff could bring Kyle Vassell and Kyle Joseph back into the starting lineup.

There may be changes in midfield with Liam Sercombe and Ellis Chapman likely to feature from the off on Wednesday.

Owen Evans has started the last three games, and the goalkeeper is expected to retain his place in the side.

MK Dons possible starting lineup:
Fisher; O'Hora, Darling, Lewington; Kioso, McEachran, O'Riley, Harvie; Boateng, Twine, Eisa

Cheltenham Town possible starting lineup:
Evans; Long, Raglan, Freestone; Blair, Sercombe, Chapman, Hussey; May, Vassell, Joseph

We say: MK Dons 2-0 Cheltenham Town

Having lost once in their last five games in all competitions, MK Dons will be confident of collecting all three points on Wednesday, and we think that they will profit against a Cheltenham side that are currently on a poor run of form.
