MK Dons announce that midfielder Alan Smith has agreed to sign a two-year contract with the League One club.

Former Manchester United and Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith has agreed to join MK Dons on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old decided to leave the Sports Direct Arena and the North East for the League One club in January on a loan deal and has decided to move away from the Premier League permanently.

The Dons confirmed on their official website that the midfielder will sign the contract in the coming days after reporting to training this week.

Smith, who has had an injury-plagued career, scored two goals in 18 appearances for Karl Robinson's side last season.
