Preview: Moreirense vs. Rio Ave - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Primeira Liga clash between Moreirense and Rio Ave, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Moreirense welcome Rio Ave to the Parque Joaquim de Almeida Freitas on Sunday, with just four points and two league places separating the sides in the middle of the Primeira Liga table.

Both teams will be looking to build on victories last time out, with the hosts beating Maritimo 2-0 while Rio Ave defeated Farense by the same scoreline last Sunday.

Moreirense returned to winning ways in their last game, defeating Maritimo 2-0 away from home thanks to a Filipe Soares brace.

That stopped a winless run from growing for Os Verdes e Brancos, having previously gone three league games without a victory.

Most recently, Vasco Seabra's side drew 2-2 with strugglers Belenenses, as Rafael Martins's brace was cancelled out by goals from Goncalo Silva and Mateo Cassierra.

That run also included a disappointing 1-0 loss to Boavista, with Angel Gomes netting the only goal of the game to seal all three points for the side who sat at the foot of the table at the time.

Seabra will be hoping that his side can put that run behind them now, as they look to record consecutive wins in the top flight in order to maintain their seventh spot.

However, Rio Ave will also be in search of a second straight victory, as a win would move them just one point behind Sunday's opponents.

Miguel Cardoso's side also returned to winning ways last time out, defeating a resurgent Farense side 2-0 at home.

Goals from Pele and Rafael Camacho sealed a sixth league win of the season for Rio Ave, after they had previously suffered two consecutive defeats in league action.

As a result of that win, Cardoso's men moved back up to ninth spot in the top flight, sitting just one point behind eighth-placed Santa Clara, and four points behind Moreirense.

That was a big relief for the Rioavistas, as they sat just three points above the relegation zone before Sunday's victory, with that gap now standing at six points.

Cardoso will now focus his attention back up the league, as his side look to move within a point of Moreirense and continue their climb back up the table.

Team News

Moreirense will be without right-back Anthony D'Alberto, who will serve a suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out.

That only adds to their selection concerns, as Vasco Seabra also remains without Pedro Nuno, Pedro Amador and Sori Mane, with all three players continuing spells out through injury.

However, they did recently welcome Felipe Pires back to action, with the winger coming off the bench in their last two games after a spell on the sidelines.

Young Manchester City loanee Nahuel Ferraresi has impressed in defence recently, cementing himself in the starting lineup.

Their line will be led by Rafael Martins and Filipe Soares, with each player netting a brace in one of their last two games.

Rio Ave remain without experienced defenders in Fabio Coentrao and Ivo Pinto, with both players out through injury.

They are joined on the sidelines by midfielder Nikola Jambor and forward Andre Pereira, after both picked up injuries in January.

Key forward Gelson Dala has struggled for goals this campaign, netting just two from his 20 league appearances.

Moreirense possible starting lineup:
Pasinato; Ba, Ferraresi, Rosic, Conte; Yan, Pacheco, A Soares, Walterson; Martins, F Soares

Rio Ave possible starting lineup:
Kieszek; Costinha, Santos, Borevkovic, Savio; Augusto, Pele; Mane, Geraldes, Camacho; Dala

We say: Moreirense 2-1 Rio Ave

With the visitors remaining weakened by injuries, we see Moreirense just edging this encounter at their home ground.

With Rafael Martins and Filipe Soares both coming in with plenty of confidence, Seabra's men should be able to find goals against a makeshift Rio Ave back line, firing them to an important victory.
