Michel der Zarkarian's Nantes leapfrog Nice with away win

Nantes move to seventh in Ligue 1 courtesy of a 2-1 away victory over Claude Puel's Nice outfit, who fall one point behind their rivals to eighth.

Nantes boss Michel der Zarkarian has seen his side leapfrog Nice in the Ligue 1 table courtesy of a 2-1 away victory.

Alexis Alegue Elandi opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, firing into the left corner of the Nice goal after being found by Youssouf Sabaly's through-ball.

Alexandre Mendy was presented with Nice's first opening of the encounter but the striker's touch failed him inside the area with 38 minutes played.

Just before half time, centre-half Romain Genevois levelled the scoreline, heading home from Hatem Ben Arfa's free kick.

Mendy did find the back of the net early in the second half but his 50th-minute strike was ruled out for offside, as Nice looked to build on their equaliser.

A 70th-minute counter-attack from Nantes proved the undoing of Claude Puel's side, however, as Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's strike flew beyond Nice keeper Mouez Hassen.

Nantes move up to seventh in the Ligue 1 table, one point ahead of Nice in eighth.
