Half-Time Report: Napoli in control at half time

Dries Mertens and Goran Pandev score in the first half to give Napoli a 2-0 lead over Cagliari in Serie A.

Napoli have headed into half time with a 2-0 lead over Cagliari in their Serie A clash this evening.

The hosts came close to opening the scoring during the first five minutes of the match when Dries Mertens tested Marco Silvestri with a shot from close range, while Marek Hamsik had an effort blocked.

Agim Ibraimi had the visitors' first shot of the match in the 22nd minute, but his long-range free kick was high and wide.

Napoli continued to create the majority of the chances as Blerim Dzemaili had two efforts saved in the space of a minute.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Goran Pandev was fouled by Daniele Conti in the penalty area, allowing Mertens to slot the ball into the bottom left corner from the spot.

Napoli continued to push as half time approached, and were able to double their lead just before the break when Pandev tapped in from close range from a Jose Callejon delivery into the box.
