Gonzalo Higuain insists Napoli do not depend on him ahead of Inter clash

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has insisted that the Partenopei's results do not depend on his services.

Gonzalo Higuain has insisted that Napoli's results do not depend on his services.

The Argentina international striker has fired 12 goals in 16 appearances this season, with Napoli currently two points off top spot in Serie A.

The Partenopei now have a chance to overtake league leaders Inter Milan on Monday when the two teams face each other at the Stadio San Paolo, and while Higuain faces a lot of pressure to provide the goals for his side, he says that success for the Partenopei is not solely down to him.

"It is still too early to say that Monday will be decisive, but it is a huge game for first place," Higuain told Il Corriere della Sera. "We will be playing to win for sure.

"Napoli's success doesn't depend on me. The team have played a few games without me and have won, so to be at 100 per cent they do not need me.

He later added: "People can discuss (Serie A's best forwards) but it isn't for me to say whether or not I'm the best striker in the league. There are a lot of big names this year, (Edin) Dzeko, (Nikola) Kalinic and (Mario) Mandzukic are all very good players."

Higuain has scored 65 goals in 120 games for Napoli since joining from Real Madrid in 2013.
