Alan Pardew: 'Newcastle United are favourites'

Alan Pardew insists that Newcastle are the favourites going into the second leg of their Europa League qualifier against Atromitos following a 1-1 draw in Greece.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has insisted that his side are the favourites in their Europa League qualifier against Atromitos following a 1-1 draw in Greece.

Ryan Taylor's free kick gave the Magpies an away goal after Denis Epstein had put the hosts in front.

"If we are taking an away goal into the home leg, we would be favourites - but we are the favourites when we play at home whoever we are playing, in my opinion, so we have got to win the game," Pardew told reporters.

"They have shown us tonight that it's not going to be a pushover and it's not going to be a foregone conclusion, so we have got to be right and we have got to make sure that the team is strong enough."

Newcastle hosts the Greeks at the Sports Direct Arena for the second leg on Thursday.
