Half-Time Report: Remy Cabella strike gives Newcastle United lead

Newcastle United midfielder Remy Cabella scores his first Premier League goal to give the Magpies a 1-0 lead over Hull City.

Remy Cabella fired Newcastle United in front just before half time, giving the Magpies a 1-0 lead over Hull City at half time in their Premier League clash at the KC Stadium this afternoon.

Tim Krul had to be alert early on as Andrew Robertson tried to slice the ball in from a tight angle on his return from injury, but the Newcastle goalkeeper was ready to make the save.

The visitors' first chance of the afternoon fell to Moussa Sissoko as he rounded a couple of defenders before firing a 20-yard effort towards the Hull goal, but his finish bobbled wide.

Both sides continued to create chances, with Curtis Davies coming within millimetres of opening the scoring for Steve Bruce's side when he tried to head the ball down from an Ahmed Elmohamady delivery, but Krul and Fabricio Coloccini managed to bundle the ball clear.

Newcastle started to look more dangerous as the break approached, but Ayoze Perez was denied as he attempted to head in from a Massadio Hairdara cross.

John Carver's side did break the deadlock with a few minutes to spare before the interval though, as Cabella intercepted a pass from Robertson to blast a low shot into the bottom corner for his first Newcastle goal.

Elmohamady thought that he had equalised in injury time, but referee Phil Dowd chalked the finish off as the midfielder had used his hand to punch the ball in from a free kick.
