Newcastle United injury, suspension list ahead of their first game back

Sports Mole rounds up Newcastle United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their first match back after lockdown, expected to be a meeting with Sheffield United.

Newcastle United will return to action in the Premier League looking for a result which may make the difference when it comes to remaining in the top flight.

Before football was brought to an abrupt halt, the Magpies ended a lengthy winless streak with an important 1-0 success at Southampton.

That triumph at St Mary's has left the North-East outfit in 13th position, eight points above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Newcastle's injury and suspension news ahead of their scheduled encounter with Sheffield United at St James' Park on June 20.

Jetro Willems

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

In January, Jetro Willems sustained a serious knee injury against Chelsea, which subsequently ruled out him out for the rest of the season. Despite having had extra time to recover, the left-back is unlikely to play any further part of the campaign.

Ciaran Clark

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: June 20 (vs. Sheff Utd)

At one stage this year, Ciaran Clark had been ruled out for the season after sustaining ankle ligament damage. However, Bruce has recently revealed that the Republic of Ireland international should be available when the Premier League gets back underway.

Paul Dummett

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Other
Possible return date: June 20 (vs. Sheff Utd)

At a similar time to Willems, Paul Dummett was ruled out for the campaign due to a significant thigh injury. However, while the left-back is fit again, the Welshman currently finds himself out of Newcastle's 25-man squad, leaving him to hope for a change in regulations.

NEWCASTLE'S SUSPENSION LIST

Newcastle have no players suspended for this match.
