Adam Armstrong "hurt" by Tyne-Wear derby defeat

Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong reveals that his side are gutted by their defeat to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park.

Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong has admitted that he and his teammates are "hurt" by their last-gasp defeat to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby.

Alan Pardew's men fell to their fourth derby loss in a row at the hands of the Black Cats as Adam Johnson struck in the 90th minute to hand Gus Poyet's men the three points at St James' Park.

Armstrong missed a decent opportunity for the Magpies in the match, and he stressed that his side are desperate to put things right over the next few weeks.

"All the lads are hurt by that and, obviously with it being a local derby, you want to win those type of games, but we've just got to push on now and make it right next game," Armstrong told the club's official website.

"There's nothing worse [than conceding a last-minute goal]. I thought we were the better side to be fair, but we just didn't take our chances and that's football - they go up the other end, counter-attack and get a goal.

"All the lads are really upset by that and looking to put it right."

Newcastle are ninth in the Premier League following their loss to their bitter rivals.
