John Carver admits he is out of the frame for Newcastle United job

Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver says that he is no longer in the frame to take the job on a permanent basis.

Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver has admitted that he is out of contention to land the job on a permanent basis following the team's 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton.

Carver has failed to register a win since succeeding Alan Pardew on an interim basis, and has now conceded that he is unlikely to take the hotseat in a full-time capacity.

"Absolutely. You've got to win football matches," he told reporters when asked whether he is now out of the running for the job.

"Although we played well for 45 minutes against Burnley and Chelsea, unfortunately we didn't quite have the cutting edge in the final third.

"I know I can do the job. I know the work we've done and the way we've played. We've come up against a side third in the Premier League so it's no disgrace. I thought we dominated the game but we've just got to have more ambition in the final third."

Former Lyon coach Remi Garde has been tipped as the frontrunner for the Newcastle job.
