The prospective new owners of Newcastle United have reportedly drawn up a four-man managerial shortlist for when their takeover is complete.

Newcastle United's prospective new owners have reportedly drawn up a four-man managerial shortlist for when their takeover of the club is complete.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be the Magpies' number one target to replace current manager Steve Bruce, while ex-Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is also on their shortlist.

Rafael Benitez is also lined up for a potential return to St James' Park as well as RB Leipzig's 32-year-old head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

"What I know for sure is Pochettino, Rafa Benitez and Allegri are the three names on the table for Newcastle. They want to convince one of them, or Nagelsmann," Guillem Balague said on his YouTube channel.

"Of course as ambitious as they are, they want one of those four actually, Nagelsmann as well. We will see.

"I believe Rafa Benitez hasn't got a call yet, I know that Pochettino is aware of the interest, very aware of the interest, even before Sky Sports News came out with the story that he's the number one target."

The takeover of Newcastle by Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Public Investment Fund from current owner Mike Ashley is believed to be in the hands of the Premier League with an announcement set to be made later this month confirming the deal.
