Former Valencia coach Ian Cathro has reportedly agreed to become assistant head coach to Steve McClaren at Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old is currently out of work after leaving Valencia a fortnight ago.
Cathro served as Nuno's assistant at the Mestalla last season, helping Los Che to finish fourth in La Liga.
The Scot became head of Dundee United's academy at the age of just 22, having had a brief playing career in the Scottish lower leagues. He became assistant to Nuno at Portuguese side Rio Ave in 2012 before following him to Valencia last year.
According to Sky Sports News, Cathro will be appointed to McClaren's coaching staff at St James' Park in time for pre-season.
McClaren was named Newcastle head coach a fortnight ago.
