League One side Rochdale have offered Joey Barton the chance to train with the club.
The Newcastle United midfielder has been forced to train away from the first-team after criticising the club's board on Twitter.
As a result Dale manager Steve Eyre, who coached Barton during his time at Manchester City, has offered the 28-year-old the opportunity to build up his match sharpness.
"Joey got in touch to wish us well for Saturday," said Eyre.
"He was nothing but good as gold for me and Frank [Bunn, Rochdale assistant manager]."
"If he ever wanted to come and work with me and Frank again to keep himself in shape, he'd be welcome."
Newcastle have told Barton he can leave on a free transfer despite having a year left on his contract.
