Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has conceded that the club have "not learned lessons" following their relegation to the Championship.
The Magpies were demoted this evening without kicking a ball as rivals Sunderland ran out 3-0 winners over Everton.
Having been in temporary charge of Newcastle when they were last relegated in 2009, Shearer has insisted that no improvements have been made.
You can't pretend it hadn't been coming. @NUFC not learned lessons from 2009. Hard as it is for me to say, well done Sam and @SunderlandAFC

Newcastle's relegation has poured doubt on the future of manager Rafael Benitez, who has a release clause in his contract.
