Newcastle United resurgence continues at West Bromwich Albion

Newcastle win five games on the spin by beating West Brom 2-0 at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

Newcastle United secured their fifth successive victory by beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

Goals in both halves from Ayoze Perez and Fabricio Coloccini helped the resurgent Magpies continue their fine form and move to seventh in the Premier League table.

Newcastle, who sat in the relegation zone in mid-October, came into this one on the back of victories over both Liverpool and Manchester City, and confidence looked high early on as Sammy Ameobi rattled the crossbar after 10 minutes.

The in-form Baggies hitman Saido Berahino looked to keep up his impressive run of form but, after good link-up play from Victor Anichebe, he forced Tim Krul to palm his stinging shot out for a corner.

With chances at a premium, both teams looked poised to go in level at the break, but Perez nonchalantly flicked a Daryl Janmaat cross beyond Ben Foster on the stroke of half time.

Alan Pardew's side weathered a light drizzle of West Brom pressure early in the second half before Coloccini doubled the lead, heading Janmaat's delightful cross past Foster after the hour mark.

Alan Irvine's side should have halved the deficit on 78 minutes when Andre Wisdom found himself unmarked in the Newcastle box, but the left-back sliced a fine chance well wide of the mark.

It proved the last chance of the game as Newcastle comfortably held out to extend their resurgent run.
