Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier denied attempting to leave the club

Reported Newcastle target Clement Grenier denies reports suggesting that he missed a training session in an effort to force a move from Lyon.

Reported Newcastle United target Clement Grenier has denied that he missed a training session in order to force a move away from Lyon, insisting that he is happy to stay with the Ligue 1 side.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the France international all summer, though the midfielder has claimed that his reported absence from training was down to an injury and nothing more.

Grenier posted on his personal website: "I have read a lot of things about myself recently.

"Just to be clear, Lyon's medical and technical staff have set me a specific programme so I can be back at 100%

"That includes a period spent training indoors. That is why I have not been present at some of the training sessions."

Grenier previously stated that he would leave Lyon if it suited the club financially.
