Alan Pardew hopeful of retaining Yohan Cabaye past January

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says that he is hopeful that they can fend off interest from other clubs to retain the services of in-form Yohan Cabaye past January.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is optimistic that the club can retain the services of Yohan Cabaye beyond the January transfer window.

Cabaye was heavily linked with a move away from the North-East outfit during the summer, with the 27-year-old refusing to play for the club amid reported interest from Arsenal.

Nevertheless, the France international - whose current deal expires in 2016 - has since made amends for previous actions by emerging as an integral figure for the Magpies this season, helping them to sixth in the Premier League.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday's visit to Crystal Palace, Pardew believes that the club are strong enough financially to fend off outside interest in the midfielder should admirers come knocking again next month.

"I am pretty confident that my owner and the club are in a great financial position. I would be a lot more nervous if we weren't," the former West Ham United boss said.

"He's a great player, there are always going to be big clubs sniffing around him. We are fortunate to have him, we are enjoying him while he is here and long may that continue."

Pardew's men can go within two points of fourth-placed Manchester City in England's top flight depending on how Manuel Pellegrini's men fare away to Fulham.
