Shanghai Shenhua captain Nicolas Anelka was reportedly involved in an angry altercation with a supporter following the club's 1-0 defeat at Qingdao Jonoon on Sunday.
The fan was said to be irate at the 33-year-old former Chelsea forward after he refused to bow to the crowd at the end of the match, which is regarded as common etiquette in China.
The Mirror quotes the following dialogue between Anelka and the supporter, who had made a 700-mile round trip to attend the match:
Fan: "Why don't you bow with the rest of the team?"
Anelka: "If you want to have a talk. Stand here now."
Fan: "I took time off work and paid for flight tickets and a hotel to come to support you all, but you did what?"
Anelka: "Why me? Why don't you find a Chinese player?"
Fan: "Because you are the captain and you should be responsible for this - if you don't respect us, we don't respect you."
Anelka: "I don't care."
Anelka joined Shenhua in December 2011 following three and a half years at Stamford Bridge.
