Latest round of Premier League coronavirus tests reveal seven positives

Seven individuals connected to Premier League clubs tested positive for coronavirus last week, the league has announced.

It continues a downward trend in positive samples after eight were recorded in the seven days from Monday, January 18 to Sunday, January 24.

The seven tests announced on Monday came from two rounds of testing which were conducted between January 25 and 31.

In total, 2,957 club staff were tested, the Premier League said.

The individuals who tested positive must now self-isolate for a period of 10
days, the league said.

The eight reported last Monday was itself a 50 per cent improvement on the previous set of results.

The league introduced tighter protocols last month to ward off the threat of coronavirus forcing the competition to be suspended.

The last top-flight match which had to be postponed because of Covid-19 was the encounter between Aston Villa and Everton on January 17.

In the EFL, Cheltenham's next two League Two matches against Barrow and Carlisle have been postponed due to recent positive coronavirus test results.
