Video Assistant Referees will be used in La Liga from the start of the 2018-19 campaign, subject to ratification from the International Football Association Board.

The technology is currently being widely used in the Bundesliga, Serie A and MLS, but its effectiveness has been called into question on a number of occasions in England this season.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino hit out at VAR following his team's 6-1 win over Rochdale in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Manchester United, meanwhile, were on the end of a bizarre call during their FA Cup fixture against Huddersfield Town on February 17.

The Spanish Football Federation and La Liga will base their VAR centre just outside Madrid, while it is understood that Friday brought the beginning of offline training for referees as the technology is prepared for introduction into Spain's top flight.
