A knee injury will keep Northampton Town captain Kelvin Langmead out of action "for around three months".

Northampton Town captain Kelvin Langmead will miss the beginning of the season with a knee injury.

The 28-year-old, who underwent an operation last week, is expected to be unavailable "for around three months", according to Town boss Aidy Boothroyd.

"Kelvin is going to be out for around three months which is a big blow to us," Boothroyd told the club's official website. "With Kelvin out for that length of time it's an opportunity for others.

"I've got to give that a bit of thought and my main focus is making sure that when we go into the game at York we have the strongest team possible."

Langmead joined Northampton from Peterborough United in 2012.
