Norwich City to confirm new manager "within a week"

Norwich City announce that they will name their new permanent manager "within a week", with caretaker boss Neil Adams a candidate for the role.

Norwich City have confirmed that they will announce their new permanent manager "within a week" following their relegation from the Premier League this afternoon.

The Canaries saw their fate mathematically guaranteed courtesy of a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at Carrow Road today, although their poor goal difference meant that they went into the final day needing an unrealistic goal swing to stay up.

Neil Adams has been in charge of the team for the final five games of the season following the sacking of Chris Hughton at the start of April, and the club confirmed that he is a candidate to get the job on a full-time basis.

"The board fully accepts that mistakes have been made which have contributed to our relegation. Work is already under way to learn from the experiences of this season and to prepare for a busy summer as we focus all of our energies and resources on competing in the Sky Bet Championship next season," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The next step is to confirm who will be our manager next season and this process is under way now. Neil Adams, who has done an admirable job in difficult circumstances, is one of a number of candidates the board is talking to.

"The board will confirm who our manager will be in the 2014-15 season in a statement to supporters within a week."

Norwich finished the season three points adrift of safety, ending a three-year stay in the top flight.
