Preview: Norwich City vs. Nottingham Forest - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Norwich City and Nottingham Forest, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Norwich City host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night, hoping to secure the three points and remain at the summit of the Championship table.

The Canaries have lost just one of their last 12 home league matches against a Forest team now managed by Chris Hughton, who comes up against his former side for only the second time as a manager at Carrow Road.

Injuries continue to ravage Norwich City this campaign, but Daniel Farke's side have coped admirably in recent weeks.

The Canaries bounced back from the 3-1 defeat away at Luton Town – which ended a run of 10 league matches unbeaten – to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Wednesday's Josh Windass broke the deadlock midway through the second half, but two late goals from Josh Martin and Max Aarons turned the game on its head to keep Norwich at the top of the Championship.

The Canaries head into their match with Nottingham Forest having lost only one of their last 12 league games – winning eight and drawing the other three – and have won four of their last six at Carrow Road.

A win on Wednesday night would be their 10th of the league campaign and could potentially move them four points clear of second placed Bournemouth and third placed Reading if both teams were to lose.

Nottingham Forest have found points difficult to come by in recent weeks and going down to 10 men inside 15 minutes last weekend made their task even more difficult.

The 2-0 defeat away to Reading was Forest's ninth of the season and Chris Hughton's side have claimed just one point from their last five league games, failing to score a goal in the process.

Forest are one of four sides who have scored fewer than 10 goals in the Championship this campaign – the other three teams are below them in the relegation zone.

The Reds face a Norwich City side whom they have beaten only once in their last seven Championship meetings, a 1-0 win back in November 2017.

Hughton has now been in charge of Forest for 12 matches and his side still remain at the wrong end of the table, but a victory on Wednesday could move them five points clear of the bottom three.

Team News

With Daniel Farke's squad down to its bare bones, the Norwich boss may name the same side that beat Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Tim Krul (thigh strain), Xavi Quintilla (hip), Kenny McLean (knee), Lukas Rupp (hamstring), Todd Cantwell (hip), Kieran Dowell (ankle), Onel Hernandez (hip), Jordan Hugill (shoulder) and Adam Idah (knee) are all sidelined with injuries.

Josh Martin, who came off the bench to score his first senior goal for Norwich in the win against Sheffield Wednesday, will be hoping that he can make his way into the starting lineup.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is suspended after being shown a red card against Reading on Saturday.

Samba Sow, who returned against Reading after a month out with injury, is back in contention to start and could replace Yates in midfield.

Tyler Blackett, Michael Dawson and Lewis Grabban are all back in training and could be in contention to feature from the bench.

Norwich City possible starting lineup:
McGovern; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Sorensen; Skipp, Vrancic; Buendia, Stiepermann, Placheta; Pukki

Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup:
Samba; Christie, Worrall, McKenna, Ribeiro; Cafu, Arter, Sow; Knockaert, Taylor, Lolley

We say: Norwich City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Despite several injuries, Norwich City have managed to cope and get results consistently. The home side's strength and confidence along with the support of 2,000 fans should help them to secure the three points against a Forest side who possess limited attacking threat and have a dismal away record.
