Norwich fall to a 3-2 defeat in their first pre-season game at the hands of Hertha Berlin.

Norwich City have fallen to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of German side Hertha Berlin in their first pre-season fixture.

The Premier League side made a good start to the match, coming close through a Jonny Howson chance after just three minutes.

It was Hertha who took the lead, however, as loanee striker Elias Kachunga was put through after 12 minutes and made no mistake with his finish.

Kachunga doubled his team's lead - and his personal tally - with a second in as many minutes, almost immediately from the restart, leaving Norwich shell-shocked at the quickfire double.

Hertha continued to threaten in the final third, and only a last ditch block by Elliott Bennett prevented the Canaries going 3-0 down after less than 20 minutes.

Norwich had a great chance to get a goal back when a mix-up in defence resulted in an open goal, but Bennett's ball to Grant Holt was intercepted just as the skipper was shaping up to shoot.

The visitors made a perfect start to the second half, however, as James Vaughan grabbed a goal back by nutmegging the Hertha keeper.

The hosts restored their two-goal lead just two minutes later, however, as Daniel Ayala brought down Kachunga in the box. The German striker got up and converted the penalty himself to complete his hat-trick.

Norwich got another back just before the hour mark as Ayala made amends by setting up Vaughan to head home his second of the game.

Vaughan almost grabbed a hat-trick of his own soon after, but he just couldn't turn in Korey Smith's shot as the hosts saw out the win.
