Nottingham Forest undone by late Ricardo Fuller goal

Nottingham Forest succumb to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Millwall in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest have succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall in this afternoon's Championship clash at the City Ground.

The visitors were first to threaten as a threatening Mark Beevers ball was cleared away, before the Reds launched a counter-attack which culminated in a Ben Osborn corner that failed to test David Forde.

Both sides exchanged probing attacks in the early stages of the game, but struggled to muster any serious chances on goal.

In the 18th minute, Millwall embarked on a bright spell as Magaye Gueye blasted a shot wide of the Forest goal, before Jos Hooiveld bore down on goal and unleashed a long-range effort that was just off target.

Forest goalkeeper Dorus de Vries then pulled off a full-stretch save just before the half-hour mark, with the Dutchman expertly clawing away a Beevers header that looked certain for the bottom corner of the net.

The Reds ended the first half on a high as Robert Tesche and Henri Lansbury both registered dangerous chances on the Millwall goal, and picked up from where they left off after the restart, with the German midfielder smashing a 30-yard shot against the crossbar.

Britt Assombalonga was next to trouble the woodwork, glancing a header against the bar from just six yards out before Michail Antonio weaved past a handful of defenders and forced a save from Forde.

Millwall had a few forays into Forest's final third to little effect as the Reds continued to put pressure on their opponents as the game went on.

However, the hosts were then caught out just seven minutes from time when Ricardo Fuller latched onto Stephen McLaughlin's poor header back before rounding De Vries and slotting the ball into an empty net.

The result means that Forest slip to 12th in the Championship table, while Millwall now find themselves just two points from safety in 22nd.
