Millwall edge past Nottingham Forest

Millwall beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in their Championship clash at the City Ground.

Millwall have given their hopes of Championship survival a boost by claiming a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this afternoon.

Stefan Maierhofer came close for the visitors in the opening stages, but his low strike from inside the box was saved by Karl Darlow.

In the 19th minute Millwall took the lead when Gonzalo Jara deflected Scott Malone's low cross into his own net.

Millwall scored a second goal with six minutes of the first half remaining, as Lee Martin cut in from the left before firing a strike across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

The home side began the second half strongly and pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute through Jamie Paterson, who met Daniel Harding's cross to head past David Forde.

Steve Morrison was then close to restoring his side's two-goal lead, but his powerful volley was pushed wide by Darlow.

Forest threatened with an opportunity of their own, as Henri Lansbury smashed a free kick just over the bar.

The home side pushed for a late goal, but struggled to create any chances as they extended their run to 10 league games without a win.
