Shaun Derry hails Notts County's "huge result"

Notts County boss Shaun Derry describes his team's 2-0 win over Swindon Town on Saturday as a "huge result" for their survival hopes.

Notts County boss Shaun Derry has described his team's 2-0 win over Swindon Town on Saturday as a "huge result" for the club's survival hopes.

The Magpies took a giant step toward preserving their League One status by moving five points clear of third-from-bottom Carlisle United - who have a game in hand - ahead of the final game of the season.

It was County's sixth victory from their previous eight outings, and Derry hopes that his charges can now complete their survival mission against Oldham Athletic next weekend.

He told Sky Sports News: "It was a huge day for us and a huge result and they just keep getting bigger and bigger. The occasion has just got massive now and we cannot let ourselves down now.

"We will come in on Monday and prepare properly. We'll train throughout the week and we'll make sure everybody is in the right frame of mind. I hope that the game against Oldham will be a joyous occasion."

Goals from Alan Sheehan and Callum McGregor sealed the three points, while the end of the contest was marred as a melee broke out which resulted in red cards for Robins duo Troy Archibald-Henville and Nathan Thompson.
