Sunday's opening La Liga clash pitted Osasuna and Getafe in Pamplona.

An open first period brought just the one goal with Osasuna leading courtesy of a smart finish from their top scorer Oriol Riera.

Both sides had opportunities in the second half, but Roberto Torres made sure of the points late on for Osasuna.

Read how it all unfolded in Sports Mole's minute-by-minute live commentary of the action below.

Morning all! Our La Liga coverage for the day opens from Pamplona as Osasuna welcome Getafe. The home side currently sit in 17th position in the table on 22 points, just two points outside of the bottom three. Getafe, meanwhile, sit 12th, but are just five points outside of the relegation zone as the battle in the bottom half continues.

In terms of the recent meetings between the two sides, both have won one of the last five matches, with the other three fixtures ending in draws. As mentioned, Osasuna were 1-0 winners in this stadium last season, but Getafe beat Osasuna 2-1 when the pair met in the Spanish capital earlier in this campaign.

TEAMS:

OSASUNA: Fernandez; Bertran, Loties, Arribas, Damia; Cejudo, Silva, Punal; Armenteros, Riera, De las Cuevas

GETAFE: Moya; Arroyo, Lisandro, Rafa, Lago; Borja, Michel; Leon, Lafita, Castro; Ciprian

So there we have it. Leading scorer Oriol Riera returns to the Osasuna XI this afternoon, while Punal also comes into the midfield. However, Roberto Torres and Raoul Loe are both on the bench. Getafe recall Lafita to their starting side, while Ciprian Marica leads the line with Adrian Colunga named on the bench.

It has been a difficult season for Osasuna, who are certainly one of eight or nine teams in a battle for survival this season. They have won just six of their 22 matches this season, losing 12 times in the process. Their knowledge of La Liga should hand them advantage over the teams around them, but they need to start picking up wins, especially in this stadium.

Their home form has been fairly disappointing this season with just three wins from their 10 matches, losing five times in the process. They have also won three times on their travels, but lost seven. Goals in general have been a problem for Osasuna this season, but it has been worse on the road with just nine strikes in their 12 matches.

As touched upon, finding the back of the net has been an issue for Osasuna. They have netted just 19 times in their 22 matches, which is the worst record in the division. What's more, eight of those have come from Oriol Riera. Getafe, however, have also struggled with just 22 goals. Down the other end, Osasuna have conceded 37 times to Getafe's 34.

Put simply, Getafe are really struggling at the moment. The capital outfit have taken just two points from their last six matches and their positive start to the season seems a distant memory. Their position of 12th might seem relatively safe, but they are just five points from the bottom three. That said, they are also just one win away from the top half of the table.

Getafe's home form has been fairly inconsistent this season with four wins, four draws and four defeats from their 12 matches on their own patch. They have also struggled on the road, winning just three of their 10 matches. Scoring goals on their travels has been a problem with just seven strikes, which is the joint-worst total in the league.

PREDICTION: I have a feeling that a goalless draw could be on the cards this afternoon. Both sides enter the match on a poor run of form, while goals have been a problem for each in recent weeks. I would lean towards Osasuna if pushed, but I am backing a 0-0 draw in Pamplona.

Here we go then. Both sets of players join us on the pitch for the first period. The pre-match handshakes have been undertaken and the flags have been exchanged. Let's hope for an entertaining contest. Getafe get the action underway as morning becomes afternoon in Spain.

Not a full house inside the stadium this afternoon, but there is a strong atmosphere. It is the type of match where the first goal - if there indeed is one - could be all-important. The referee is immediately called into action to deal with two late challenges on Getafe forward Marica in quick succession.

CHANCE! Wonderful chance for Getafe to take the lead as Borja meets a free kick from Leon, but Fernandez is on hand to make a fine save. The rebound falls for Borja, but his header is wide of the post. The visitors have started on the front foot in Pamplona.

Osasuna have not been allowed to start in the opening six minutes with Getafe pressing high up the pitch. The away side again break with Marica, who takes on Loties, but the French defender makes a fine challenge at the vital moment. Plenty happening in the middle of the park, meanwhile, in terms of challenges.

GOAL! Osasuna 1-0 Getafe (Riera)

Brilliant, just brilliant from Riera. Osasuna's leading scorer hands his side the lead as he beats the offside trap before lifting his effort over the head of Moya. Well, that has changed the atmosphere inside the stadium.

Everyone in a red shirt wants the ball at the moment as the home side continue to force the issue in the Getafe half. The goal has completely taken the stuffing out of the away side, who started the stronger. Leon wants a free kick outside the box moments later, but the referee shakes his head.

CHANCE! Getafe's best chance of the match falls to Lafita after bright work from Marica, but the Spaniard's effort is straight at Fernandez from inside the box. Pulsating encounter in Pamplona as the match continues to flow from end-to-end.

The referee has been more involved than he would have liked in the last couple of moments due to a number of late challenges. The latest free kick hands Getafe the chance to deliver into the Osasuna box, but Fernandez is on hand to clear under pressure from Marica. Still 1-0 Osasuna with 14 minutes on the clock in this La Liga clash.

Half-chance for Osasuna as Cejudo finds some space outside the box before curling one towards the top corner, but his effort was always moving wide of the post. Neither side is too interested in defending at the moment as both continue to commit numbers in the final third.

CHANCE! Another opportunity for the home side as De las Cuevas meets a cross from Cejudo, but the Spaniard cannot make enough contact to worry Moya, who collects with ease. Getafe are down the other end with Leon, but Marica's header is into the arms of Fernandez.

Sunday's early La Liga games usually take a while to get going, but that has not been the case this afternoon. Getafe continue to threaten in wide areas with Lafita, while Marica remains a powerful target. Twice in quick succession Osasuna stopper Fernandez is forced to produce two punches under pressure in the box.

Nervy moment for Getafe as defender Rafa slices a cross from Cejudo towards his own goal, but Moya does manage to claim at the vital moment. Osasuna break with Armenteros moments later, but his effort is straight into the arms of Moya. Pulsating clash in Pamplona as the intensity continues to rise.

Another half-chance for the away side as Castro finds some space on the right before delivering a cross towards Marica, but the Romanian cannot make contact. Leon chases a through pass from Lafita moments later, but Fernandez is out to collect at the vital moment.

A heavy clash of heads between De las Cuevas and Marica leaves the Getafe forward on the ground with a cut on the side of his head. However, it does appear that the Romanian will be fit to continue. You just get the feeling that the next goal - if there indeed is one - could be vital in terms of the final result.

Slightly untidy period of the match in the last couple of moments with the referee forced to deal with a number of late challenges. Osasuna scorer Riera hits the deck following a challenge with Borja, with replays showing that the Spaniard turned his ankle. Little over 15 minutes of the first period remaining. This half has just flown past.

Getafe call for a penalty as Marica goes down inside the box following a free kick from Leon, but the referee is not interested. The pressure continues from the away side as Rafa delivers a cross into the box, but Lisandro is penalised for climbing. It has been a good response from Getafe since conceding early on.

Half-chance for Osasuna as Armenteros finds some space on the edge of the box before striking towards goal, but his effort was always moving wide of the post. The end-to-end period continues as Getafe break with Leon, but his through pass is too heavy for Marica, with Loties clearing once more.

POST! Wonderful chance for Getafe to level as Lafita meets a deep cross from Leon, but the Spaniard's header clips the outside of the post. Osasuna might be leading, but the away side have had their moments this afternoon.

Not too much for the home supporter to get excited about in the last few moments as Getafe continue to force the issue in the final third. You just get the feeling that the away side need to score during this positive spell. Little over five minutes of the first period remaining as Castro is denied by a fine last-ditch challenge from Loties.

Half-chance for Riera to score his second as Cejudo whips a dangerous cross into the box, but Lopez is on hand to clear the danger. Osasuna break with De las Cuevas, but the Spaniard is felled by Borja. No sign of the intensity dropping in Pamplona.

Getafe are forced into a change in the latter stages of the first period as Adrian Colunga enters the field in place of Marica, who picked up a heavy blow to his head in the early stages. Moments later, Osasuna are also forced into a change as the skipper Punal is replaced by Lolo.

It must be said that this opening half has just flown past. It seems a long time since Riera sent Osasuna into the lead, but there have been a number of opportunities since then. I would be surprised if we had seen the last of the goals as the first period enters its latter stages.

CHANCE! Opportunity for Osasuna to score their second as Moya fumbles a strike from De las Cuevas, but the Getafe stopper just manages to push behind under pressure from Cejudo, who looked certain to tap home from close range. Getafe are forced into another change late in the half as Alexis replaces Rafa. You don't often see three first-half changes.

Wow - this is incredible. Osasuna are now forced into their second change in the first half as Roberto Torres replaces De las Cuevas. Both sides have been forced into two first-half changes through injury.

HALF TIME: Osasuna 1-0 Getafe

So there we have it. The referee brings the first period to an end with Osasuna leading 1-0 courtesy of a smart finish from Riera after six minutes. Both sides have had opportunities to add to the scoring, but just the one goal separates the La Liga pair at the interval.

STATISTICS: Getafe have had more of the ball with 58%, while they have had eight attempts to Osasuna's six. However, both have had three on target. It has not been a particularly dirty half in terms of challenges, meanwhile, with the referee issuing just the one yellow card.

BENCH WATCH: Incredibly, both sides have been forced into two changes in the first period. Lolo and Torres entered for Punal and De las Cuevas for Osasuna. Meanwhile, Getafe replaced Marica and Rafa with Colunga and Alexis. The home side still have options in the shape of Acuna and Loe, while Getafe have the likes of Gavilan and Sarabia in reserve.

Here we go then. Both sets of players join us on the pitch for the second period. As it stands, Osasuna would move into 14th, while Getafe would remain 12th. Right, the home side get the second 45 minutes underway in Pamplona.

I would be surprised if we had seen the last of the goals this afternoon based on the number of chances that arrived in the first period. Getafe have made the brighter start to the second 45 minutes with Lafita, Leon and Colunga all enjoying touches of the ball in the Osasuna half.

Half-chance for Getafe as Castro finds some space inside the box before drilling a low cross towards Lafita, but Damia clears at the vital moment. Osasuna break immediately with Riera, but Borja is across to clear. End-to-end football with 50 minutes on the clock.

Slightly untidy last couple of moments with both sides guilty of a number of late challenges in the middle of the park. Getafe build from the back once more before Leon delivers towards Colunga, but Cejudo comes across to clear the danger. Not too much in terms of clear opportunities in the second period thus far. However, plenty of intent from both teams.

Half-chance for Osasuna as Cejudo meets a corner from Armenteros on the volley, but his effort is high and wide of the crossbar. Silva has an effort from distance moments later, but Moya is on hand to make the save. It remains 1-0 Osasuna with 55 minutes on the clock in Pamplona.

CHANCE! Wonderful chance for Getafe to level as Colunga drives into the Osasuna box before rolling his effort under the body of Fernandez, but Damia is on hand to clear off the line. The chances are starting to arrive as the second period gathers pace in Pamplona.

Getafe continue to force the issue with a series of crosses into the Osasuna box, but the home side's back four have been compact this afternoon. Arroyo threatens as the Getafe defender arrives late inside the box, but Arribas is on hand to clear. Little over 30 minutes of football remaining. I would be surprised if we had seen the last of the goals.

Not too much in terms of clear chances in the last couple of moments, with both sides guilty of a number of late challenges in the middle of the park. A poor clearance from Loties on Castro gains the Osasuna defender a yellow card, but the resulting set piece from Leon is cleared.

CHANCE! Oh my word what a chance! Golden opportunity for Osasuna to score their second as Armenteros finds himself one-on-one with Moya following a swift break, but his effort is straight at the Getafe stopper from close range. That might have secured all the points.

Neither side is too interested in defending at the moment as the match continues to flow from end-to-end. Just a reminder that both managers have been forced into two changes, which makes a possible third alteration even more important. Little under 25 minutes remaining. Still Osasuna lead courtesy of that Riera strike after six minutes.

The intensity continues to rise in the middle of the park as Arroyo is booked for a late challenge on Cejudo. The referee is quickly on the scene, but there is a danger that this match could boil over. The resulting free kick is taken by Silva, but Getafe clear before breaking immediately down the other end.

Half-chance for the home side as Torres finds some space down the right before delivering a dangerous cross into the box, but Alexis is on hand to clear at the vital moment. The resulting corner is taken by Cejudo, but Loties heads straight at Moya from close range.

Not too much to report in terms of clear chances in the last few moments, but Getafe are enjoying more of the ball. You just get the feeling that opportunities will arrive as the match becomes stretched. You can sense the nervousness in the crowd with 73 minutes on the clock.

Getafe make their third and final change with 15 minutes remaining and Gavilan replaces Michel. Moments later, Torres is pulled to the ground just outside the Getafe box by Lago. The resulting free kick is delivered by Torres, but Moya makes a fine point-blank save from Loties.

Half-chance for Getafe as Leon finds some space outside the box before striking one towards the bottom corner, but it just moves wide of the post. Moments later, Osasuna make their third and final change as Cejudo is replaced by Oier. Both managers have made all three changes with little over 10 minutes of football remaining.

Stop-start period of the match in the last couple of moments as Lolo receives some treatment after taking a free kick in the face from Leon. Neither side is too interested in defending at the moment as both continues to commit numbers in the final third. Surely one of these chances will be taken in the latter stages.

Half-chance on the counter for the away side as Leon feeds Colunga, but Fernandez is on hand to collect at the vital moment. Damia has an effort from distance down the other end, but it just moves high and wide of the crossbar.

CHANCE! Wonderful chance for Colunga once more as the Getafe forward latches onto a loose ball inside the Osasuna box, but Fernandez is out to make a fine challenge at the vital moment. The Osasuna goalkeeper has been brilliant this afternoon.

CHANCE! Opportunity for Osasuna this time as Damia delivers a wonderful cross into the Getafe box, but Riera cannot make contact under pressure from Lisandro. Little under five minutes remaining and the match continues to flow from end-to-end.

CHANCES! Getafe continue to force the issue with a series of crosses into the Osasuna box. A period of pin-ball follows as Leon and Colunga both have efforts from close range, but Damia makes two important blocks in quick succession. Time is starting to run out for Getafe as the second period moves towards its latter stages.

GOAL! Osasuna 2-0 Getafe (Torres)

Osasuna have their second and secure all the points in the process as Torres leads a two-on-one situation with Moya following a quick break. The Spaniard gives the Getafe goalkeeper the eyes before rolling his effort into the bottom corner.

The fourth official indicates that we will play an additional three minutes and we are indeed into the second of those. Leon has a half-chance at the far post for Getafe, but his header is high and wide of the crossbar.

FULL TIME: Osasuna 2-0 Getafe

So there we have it. Osasuna score once in each half to secure a 2-0 win over Getafe. Thanks for joining Sports Mole for the action and be sure to join us again later for more La Liga football. Until then!
