Walsall hold Peterborough United

Walsall hold Peterborough United to a goalless draw in a drab encounter at Bescot Stadium.

Peterborough United ended a run of three successive League One defeats after being held to a 0-0 draw away to Walsall this afternoon.

Darren Ferguson's side stopped the rot at Bescot Stadium, but the visitors will count themselves unlucky not to leave with a victory after enjoying the best chances in a tight clash.

By virtue of those three defeats, Posh travelled to Walsall with a point to prove, but it was the hosts that made all the early running.

Despite boasting much of the possession, Walsall only had one shot to show for their territorial dominance as Adam Chambers dragged a 20-yard effort wide after six minutes.

Posh grew into the game and Kgosi Ntlhe, making his first appearance in seven weeks, almost marked his comeback by flashing a long-range shot inches wide of the goal.

The visitors finished the half in the ascendency, with Michael Bostwick heading a Joe Newell cross into the side-netting as Ferguson's men found themselves frustrated in the first half.

However, they lost that momentum somewhere between the half-time whistle and restart as Graham Alexander's side started the second half on top, with Anthony Forde going close early on.

Their dominance did not last long, though, as Bostwick led Peterborough's quest for an opener with a pile-driver that glided narrowly past the post in what proved the last clear chance of the encounter.

The result helps Walsall move 16th in the League One table, two points clear of the relegation zone.
