Maurice Edu leaves Stoke City for Philadelphia Union

Stoke City's American midfielder Maurice Edu secures a permanent move to MLS outfit Philadelphia Union.

Philadelphia Union have completed the permanent signing of Maurice Edu from Stoke City.

The midfielder arrived at the Britannia Stadium from Rangers in 2012, but he played just nine minutes for the Premier League club before he was sent on loan to Union last year.

Having impressed during his time at PPL Park, Union have taken up the option to sign the 28-year-old.

"I couldn't be happier to permanently return to Philadelphia and to play in front of our great fans. I believe in this team's future and am excited to be an integral part of that," he told the club's official website.

Edu scored three goals during his 31 appearances in the MLS last season.
