Micky Adams praises young Port Vale defenders

Port Vale manager Micky Adams praises young defenders Joe Davis and Jack Grimmer for their performance during the goalless draw at Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.

Port Vale manager Micky Adams has praised young defenders Joe Davis and Jack Grimmer for their performance during the goalless draw at Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.

The Vale boss expressed disappointment that his side couldn't create more against the second-from-bottom Shrews, but nevertheless had positives to take from the game as the Valiants kept their second consecutive clean sheet, following Tuesday's 2-0 home win over Colchester United.

Adams told the Stoke Sentinel: "You can't knock it at the minute because it is two clean sheets. The two young centre halves are learning their trade, but as a combination they look decent. But we can never take our defending for granted.

"Today I was really pleased with them. They looked composed, stood up to the task well and they are getting better. We came here with the intention of trying to get three points, it's not worked out but I am pleased with the clean sheet."

"I thought we defended manfully today. I was a little bit surprised with their formation and line up, but I suppose they are scrapping for their lives and it is up to us to try to break them down. I thought in the final third we lacked a little bit of composure at times when a little thought was need to try to break them down."

Port Vale currently occupy ninth place in League One and are six points away from the playoffs.
