Preston North End 2-0 Huddersfield Town

First-half goals from Jack King and Nicky Wroe see Preston North End knock Huddersfield Town out of the Capital One Cup.

League One side Preston North End have ousted newly-promoted Championship outfit Huddersfield Town in the opening round of the Capital One Cup this evening.

The home side went ahead just before the half-hour mark when Jack King headed home Jeffrey Monakana's cross from the right.

The lead was doubled five minutes before the interval when Nicky Wroe's low shot beat Alex Smithies.

Keith Southern threatened to pull a goal back moments after the resumption but his shot whistled just over the crossbar.

Huddersfield, who were missing their star striker Jordan Rhodes because of an international call-up with Scotland, peppered the Preston goal late on but they couldn't find a way past Thorsten Stuckmann.
