Paris Saint-Germain beat Montpellier in Coupe de France

Paris Saint-Germain score three second-half goals to knock Montpellier out of the Coupe de France.

Paris Saint-Germain have progressed in the Coupe de France, scoring all three goals in the second half to seal a 3-0 win over Montpellier HSC this evening.

The Ligue 1 champions had more time on the ball early in the first half, but Jonathan Ligali made sure that a couple of Marquinhos crosses did not lead to an early goal.

Nicolas Douchez had to remain alert down the other end though as Montpellier tried to catch the visitors out on the counter-attack, but Anthony Mounier could not get his finish away.

David Luiz had one of the best opportunities in the opening 45 minutes as he jumped to try to head the ball in at the near post, but Ligali snatched it away before he got his head to it.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic tried to make an impact early in the second half when he played Clement Chantome in, but Daniel Congre slid in to break up the move.

PSG continued to look the more likely of the two sides, and almost opened the scoring when Lucas found Adrien Rabiot with a corner, but the youngster could not flick it in.

The deadlock was finally broken with just over an hour gone as Ibrahimovic squared the ball in for Chantome to guide past Ligali.

The home side tried to respond quickly, but Luiz was on hand to make sure that Lucas Barrios did not find Kevin Berigaud just a few yards out.

After surviving a strong spell from Montpellier, PSG put the win beyond doubt when Javier Pastore crossed the ball in from the left, leaving Ibrahimovic with a simple header from close range.

Dabo provided some faint hope for the home side in the final stages as he tried to set up a late goal, but Marco Verratti made the stop after Pastore had slipped while marking him.

Montpellier's attempts to try to get a goal back cost them though, as a counter-attack in stoppage time caught the home side short at the back, allowing Lucas to rubber-stamp the win by beating the defenders with a sprint down the right before rifling the ball home.

PSG will face Bordeaux in the round of 16.
