Harry Redknapp insists that he feels more optimistic about Queens Park Rangers' chances of survival after watching them earn a point away at Sunderland.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has insisted that there a plenty of positives to take from his side's dogged display against Sunderland.

Redknapp began life as Hoops boss with a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light, a result which means that QPR have now gone 14 games without a win this season.

QPR had chances to win a keenly-contested clash between the struggling sides and Redknapp has declared that he feels optimistic about his side's chances of survival.

He told Sky Sports News: "We worked hard and we deserved a point tonight. We defended well and denied them chances.

"I feel more optimistic tonight than on Saturday. I saw enough tonight to think we can go on a small run and keep ourselves in the pack.

"QPR reminds me very much of my time as Portsmouth, great fans in a smaller stadium. It's a tough job but if the fans get behind us and we turn things round at home, go on a little run and stay in the hunt."

Redknapp's side are now eight points from safety and continue their search for a maiden victory of the campaign this weekend against Aston Villa.
