Queens Park Rangers suffer defeat at West Ham United

QPR remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after suffering a 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

Queens Park Rangers have suffered a fifth Premier League defeat of the season with a 2-0 loss against West Ham United at Upton Park.

Harry Redknapp's side remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points to show from their opening seven matches of the campaign.

The hosts took the lead with just five minutes played when Nedum Onuoha deflected a corner past goalkeeper Robert Green and into his own net.

West Ham almost extended their advantage on 10 minutes through Enner Valencia, but his tame effort bobbled wide of the post after he was picked out in the box by Diafra Sakho.

QPR's best opportunity of the first half came the way of Charlie Austin, though he could only shoot straight at Adrian with a curling effort.

Austin then came within inches of drawing the visitors level during the early stages of the second half with a controlled effort that flew narrowly wide.

The away side were made to pay for their previous misses on the hour as Sakho nodded in James Tomkins's cross from close range for his fifth goal of the season.

QPR showed some more fight as the match went on, with Onuoha and Niko Kranjcar both trying their luck from long range.

Substitute Adel Taarabt saw a powerful drive flash wide with 10 minutes left as the R's side looked for a way back into the game, but they were unable to breach the organised West Ham defence.
