Louis Vaughan strikes down struggling Alloa Athletic

Alloa Athletic remain above Cowdenbeath only goal difference after losing 2-1 to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Championship.

Lewis Vaughan's goal just after half time helped Raith Rovers to a 2-1 victory against relegation-threatened Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Championship.

Mark Stewart came close to forging an early lead for the hosts, but saw his 19th-minute strike saved by Craig McDowall.

The midfielder did find a breakthrough midway through the half for the Kirkcaldy side, but Alloa managed to get back on level terms just after the half-hour mark when Liam Buchanan scored from Ryan McCord's corner.

Raith were able to restore their advantage within moments of the restart when Vaughan reacted quickest to Liam Fox's free kick to beat a helpless McDowall.

The result leaves Alloa level with second-bottom Cowdenbeath, although the Clackmannanshire outfit boast a superior goal difference.
